Minneapolis Wedding Venues that I love

One of my favorite parts of being a wedding photographer in Minneapolis is getting to see so many incredible venues. Every space has its own personality, and over the years I’ve learned that the “best” venue really comes down to what feels most like you. 

Some couples dream about a grand historic mansion. Others want something like the Woodland Glasshaus surrounded by trees or an industrial space filled with natural light like the Urban Daisy or the Whim.

 Thankfully, the Twin Cities have a little bit of everything. Here are a few of my personal favorites.

American Swedish Institute

The American Swedish Institute is a museum during the week but after hours converts to a venue for any sort of event. Because of the elegant design and timeless structure it photographs well pretty much everywhere. If you want to tour it yourself during the week Thursdays are free to visit otherwise you have to pay for a ticket to see the place. Between the historic mansion, beautiful gardens, and incredible architecture, there’s no shortage of beautiful spaces for portraits and meaningful moments.

I photographed a wedding here where the couple added Super 8 film alongside their photography collection, and it ended up being one of their favorite parts of the experience. There is something about seeing your wedding on actual film that feels nostalgic and timeless in a way that’s hard to describe until you watch it back. The wedding got featured in Minnesota Bride and I’m super proud of it.

The best part is that Super 8 is a really easy add-on that adds a ton of value without changing the flow of the day. It simply gives you another layer of memories to relive years down the road.

Woodland Glasshaus at Bavaria Downs

If you’re dreaming about something modern and well lit, The Woodland Glasshaus is hard to beat.

As part of the Bella Gala Bavaria Properties the venue is a glass tent structure that is disassembled in the winter and put up for the summer. It does get a cooking in the summer so if you’re planning on a ceremony at 2pm in July maybe double check with the venue staff before booking. The venue is best used 4-10pm. There are two tents and bathroom trailers to accommodate guests. One tent is used for ceremony, the other for reception, and while you’re at dinner they flip the ceremony space to a dance floor. The courtyard outside the two tents has umbrellas and some shade but honestly 4-10pm and closer to 7-8pm is when this place is peak.

The natural light is incredible, the surrounding woods feel peaceful, and it somehow manages to feel elegant without feeling overly formal. I especially love this venue for couples who want their day to feel relaxed and joyful while still looking stunning.

Redeemed Farms in Scandia Minnesota

Jeff and Julie own this place and put a lot of time and effort into making it the venue it is today. I would consider it luxury barn that represents almost a feel like the Magnolia brand than a barn. One of the weddings shot here was featured in vogue magazine.

The bright interiors, beautiful outdoor spaces, and timeless design make it incredibly versatile. Whether you’re planning a black-tie celebration or something a little more laid back, the space always photographs beautifully.

The Whim

The Whim is one of those venues that just feels fun.

There’s a warmth to the space that immediately puts people at ease, and the exposed brick and moody atmosphere create such a unique backdrop for both photos and celebrations. It feels intimate, stylish, and full of personality.

Seven Vines Vineyard

For couples who love the idea of wine country but want to stay close to home, Seven Vines Vineyard is one of my favorite venues in Minnesota.

The sunsets are beautiful, the grounds are gorgeous, and there’s something about being surrounded by vines and open skies that makes the whole day feel a little slower and more intentional.

The Minikahda Club is one of my favorite wedding venues in Minneapolis. Overlooking Bde Maka Ska, this historic country club combines timeless architecture with incredible views and an atmosphere that feels both elegant and welcoming.

One of the things I love most about weddings at Minikahda is how effortlessly the day flows. Whether you’re exchanging vows on the lawn or celebrating inside the grand ballroom, every space feels classic without feeling overly formal. The natural light, beautiful grounds, and iconic skyline views make it an incredible backdrop for both candid moments and portraits. My favorite is the bridal suite. The wall paper and the light feels victorian and magical. When I filmed Johnny and Isabel’s wedding last year with Mother of the Bride weddings we really used that space for the natural light to capture the day with Super 8 film cameras. Film is below. I know I’m posting a lot of videos in this blog post but I photograph weddings as well and I wanted to reiterate that.

What really stands out, though, is how personal weddings feel here. The Minikahda Club has a way of bringing people together and creating the kind of atmosphere that couples and families remember long after the day is over.

There are wedding venues, and then there are places that feel like an experience. Stout’s Island Lodge is one of those places. It’s basically summer camp for you and all your wedding guests.

Nestled on a private island in northern Wisconsin, Stout’s feels like a world away from everyday life. Guests arrive by boat, spend the weekend together in cabins on a fully staffed Island. Full catering and bar and activities all week. Between the historic Adirondack-style lodge, the towering pines, and the views of Red Cedar Lake, every corner of the property feels peaceful and timeless.

What I love most about Stout’s Island Lodge weddings is that they naturally encourage people to slow down and be present. It feels less like a single event and more like a weekend spent with your favorite people. Some of my favorite moments have happened around the bonfire, on the docks at sunset, or during those quiet in-between moments when everyone finally settles into island life.

If you’re dreaming about a wedding that feels relaxed, meaningful, and a little removed from the rest of the world, Stout’s Island Lodge is one of the most unique destination wedding venues in the Midwest. It’s the kind of place that people talk about long after the weekend is over.

Finding the Right Venue

I always tell couples that your wedding venue doesn’t have to impress everyone else.

It just has to feel like you.

Years from now, nobody is going to remember how many chairs were in the room or whether your napkins matched perfectly. They’re going to remember the people who were there, the laughter, the hugs, and how the whole day felt.

That’s what I love documenting.
