I got the opportunity to work with Mother of the Bride weddings for a beautiful wedding at the Minikahda Country Club this past June. Ashley Fox Designs was the florist, and Jordan Joseph Photography was the photographer.
Isabel and I had a few consult calls to navigate the wedding and a walkthrough of the venue the week before, and before I knew it I was filming Isabel and Johnny’s wedding.
and calls, and we decided to put together a Super 8 wedding film mixed with digital for coverage for her wedding weekend. We started with the rehearsal dinner at the Walker Art Center in downtown Minneapolis, and I was able to shoot some Super 16mm film as well as 8 mm film.
One of my favorite moments from the entire weekend was Mr Truesdale reading for the wedding ceremony. Here’s a short clip of it:
At the Minikahda Club, the floral design from Ashley Fox Designs really stole the show in the ballroom. The flowers were incredible. I’ve never seen the Minikahda ballroom decorated that way.
Over the last decade, I’ve leaned on what feels real — unscripted glances, honest laughter, the tiny imperfections that reveal personality. That’s the core of what I do. (Tim Thornburg) For Isabel and Johnny’s day, I decided to bring Super 8 and 16 mm film into the mix — and blend them with modern digital footage.
Mixed together, they don’t compete — they compliment. The softness of film and the clarity of digital create a layered filmic experience: cinematic, emotional, and true to what the day felt like.
Isabel and Johnny’s energy was calm and grounded, even in the chaos of final preparations. The rehearsal dinner at Walker Art Center brought a quiet elegance before the joyful chaos of the reception. At Minikahda Club, the tone shifted seamlessly from intimate ceremony to warm celebration — all under the same roof.
Capturing those transitions — the quiet anticipation, the burst of joy, the stolen glances, the tears, the laughter — with film and digital allowed me to treat their day like a storybook. It’s not just about events. It’s about feelings.
When you watch their highlight, I hope you feel the richness of the vows, the intimacy of the first look, the warmth of family and friends, and the electric joy of the dance floor. I hope it doesn’t feel like a “video,” but like a memory.
Here were some kind words from Isabel
“Tim captured Johnny’s & my wedding day so beautifully — and went above and beyond from start to finish. We’ve been reliving every moment through his films over the past week and are completely in awe of his storytelling and eye for emotion.
The way he wove each speech and moment together into one seamless, cohesive narrative is truly beautiful. His attention to detail was extraordinary — from sweeping cinematic shots to the smallest candid expressions, every frame feels intentional and deeply personal.
He also went well beyond the hours we originally discussed, capturing additional Rehearsal night moments and crafting an incredible bonus film of my Grandpa’s reading — a piece that moved my mom and her sisters to tears. They (and we) will cherish it forever.
Planning a wedding came with its fair share of stress, but when it came to videography, I felt at ease knowing Tim was there to document the day with care and expertise. I am grateful for his support and partnership throughout this chapter of life, and I hope we have the chance to work with him again in the future.”
