Why should I include super 8 film in my wedding video?

Super 8 film, introduced by Kodak in 1965, is a motion picture film format that gained popularity for its ease of use and affordability compared to earlier formats. It uses 8mm wide film and comes in cartridges, making it simple to load into cameras. Super 8 is renowned for its distinctive, nostalgic aesthetic, characterized by grainy texture, vibrant colors, and a slightly flickering quality, all of which evoke a sense of timelessness and charm. Lately, this has taken the wedding video world by storm. Most of these cameras can be found on ebay or facebook marketplace, but the real cost is in getting the film processed and developed.

Including Super 8 film in your wedding film can add a layer of warmth and authenticity that digital formats often lack. It can bring some spice to the wedding film that you won't get elsewhere. I love including them on Adventure sessions with a couple to sprinkle in some fun nostalgia with the modern elegant look of my canon C70 cinema camera. Overall the Super 8 film will cost about $115 per 3 minutes of footage. That's just the cost of the film and getting it developed as well as scanned and sent back to the videographer. To be clear, that's the cost, not the price of purchasing it with a wedding film package. Most videographers offer super 8 but not for less than $1,000 as the break even point is right around there after time editing, buying the camera, film, development, and fitting into your film. If you're interested in super 8 film, don't let the price deter you. The look and the feel has a timeless feel that will carry over many years past your wedding date.

In a time dominated by high-definition digital media, Super 8 offers a refreshing alternative that can captivate viewers with its distinct visual charm. It adds a creative and cinematic flair to your wedding film, making it not just a documentation of events but a beautifully crafted narrative. This artistic approach can make your wedding film a memorable keepsake that you'll cherish for years to come, as well as a delightful experience to share with family and friends.
