As a Minneapolis wedding photographer, I’m always looking for spaces that bring together architecture, light, and emotion in a way that elevates a couple’s story. The American Swedish Institute is one of those venues. It’s historic, textured, and endlessly inspiring — the kind of place where every corner feels like a photograph waiting to happen.
This wedding was a collaboration with the incredibly talented teams at Green Goddess Floral and Jenna Culley Events, and together they transformed the ASI into something truly breathtaking. The design felt refined but modern, lush but intentional — the perfect backdrop for the editorial, documentary-leaning style I love to shoot.

I approach each wedding day with an eye toward authenticity, but I also love creating imagery that feels editorial and elevated. At ASI, the historic staircases, stone textures, and soft natural light made it easy to craft portraits that felt clean, stylish, and timeless.
For this wedding, I mixed my usual documentary approach with more intentional posing and composition — giving the couple space to move, breathe, and be themselves, while still shaping the light and mood to create something artful.
The reception took place in the courtyard, surrounded by warm summer air and candlelit tables styled flawlessly by Jena Culley Events. As the sun set, I leaned heavily into off-camera flash to create vibrant, dimensional reception photos. It added depth to the dance floor moments and gave the entire night a crisp, editorial finish that still felt true to the energy of the celebration.
Green Goddess Floral absolutely transformed the space — bold greenery, layered textures, and blooms that managed to feel both organic and sculptural. Their designs added movement and life to every frame. Whether I was shooting natural-light portraits or flash-lit reception coverage, their floral work elevated every scene.
This day reminded me why Minneapolis weddings have such a special place in my heart. The mix of historic architecture, thoughtful design, and emotional storytelling created a gallery full of honest moments and elevated, editorial portraits.
If you’re looking for a Minneapolis wedding photographer who blends documentary authenticity with modern editorial style — and who isn’t afraid to use off-camera flash to craft unforgettable reception images — I’d love to help tell your story.
